Family Events and Activities (Posted On: Monday, July 11, 2011)

Exciting festivals, free family events, and summer activities are plentiful so if the kids are driving you crazy after only a couple weeks of summer vacation there’s lots of stuff that’s easy on the wallet to keep them occupied.  When was the last time you took the kids to Blue Mountain Go Karts?  Check it out because it’s under new ownership and they’re making lots of changes there.

Click HERE to see the video of Roy Leblanc and the Elvis events happening at the Olde Town Terrace.

FAMARAMA in the Blue Mountain Village is happening this weekend from July 15th – 17th.  This 3-day free family weekend is celebrating families with buskers, live music, juggling, magic shows, pajama party, outdoor Movies Under The Stars, Juno Award performers, family hiking, gondola rides, Plunge! Aquatic Centre & kids activities.  Click here for a full line-up of events and to find out when you can meet and greet Dora the Explorer and Diego.

Collingwood Elvis Festival at Blue (July 22-24) offers 3 days of FREE outdoor concerts by some of the top Elvis Tribute artists!  Featuring all time favorite ROY LEBLANC Saturday afternoon in the Village.  Click here to find out who is playing when in the Blue Mountain Village.

Remember there are free Movies under the Stars all summer long every Wednesday and Friday evening.

If your kids are crafty, checkout Minds Alive in Downtown Collingwood for a complete list of summer craft workshops for your youngsters.

Don’t forget about the Creemore Children’s Festival this weekend.  Click here for everything you need to know at your fingertips.

You can also sneak in a little bit of culture into their diets with a trip to one of our local museums or take in Wasaga Under Siege which only comes around once a year and is really worth taking in.  One of my favourite museums to visit is the Craigleith Heritage Depot.  A ride along the Georgian Trail with a pit stop at the Depot combines exercise with local culture and history.  Your kids can laugh at the funny looking old wooden skis and also marvel fossils.

The Craigleith Heritage Depot offers the following exhibits:

• History of the Craigleith Depot
• History of the changing railways
• Geological history (fossils, ancient seas, escarpment)
• The Petun archaeological sites
• The Paleolithic archaeological sites
• History of the ski industry
• Sir Sandford Fleming
• The Craigleith Oil Works
• The wreck of the Mary Ward
• History of the apple industry
• TBM peoples and places in history (i.e. Rankin, Stuart, etc.)
• History of the Town of The Blue Mountains

The Collingwood Museum has a whole schedule of activities to keep your little hands busy this summer.  Click here for more information and please note that pre-registration is required because space is limited.
