If you have an idea for a business and have been in pursuit of start-up funding to get it off the ground, this is your chance! The Meaford & District Chamber of Commerce is now actively seeking contestants for the second annual Dragons’ Den Meaford competition set for Wednesday, October 20th, 2010 at Meaford Hall.
Much like the CBC TV show, qualifying contestants will pitch their concepts in front of a panel of five local business
savvy Dragons, each bringing $1,000 (minimum) to the table to invest in the ideas they like best. The first Dragons’ Den Meaford resulted in two new business start-ups and as much as $31,000 of cash and in kind contributions injected into Meaford’s business community.
A press conference was held at Meaford Hall on June 28th to unveil the new Dragons’ Den Meaford logo for 2010, announce the criteria and show format, recognize sponsors, and introduce the three out of five Dragons who have signed on thus far. These fire breathing Dragons include Barb Kay of The 100 Mile Market, Terry Scott of Scott Clay Products and Paul Penny of Walker Mowers. There are still two vacant spots on the panel, and the Chamber is asking anyone who might be interested in being a Dragon to please come forward ASAP.
The criteria is simple… Applicants can come from anywhere (not just Meaford), however, those receiving funding from the competition MUST register their business to operate within the Municipality of Meaford. Each applicant must also demonstrate how their idea relates to at least one of the four pillars of the Meaford Economic Development Strategy:
Applications are now being accepted with the deadline for submission on Wednesday, September 15th, 2010. Please drop by the Chamber office at 16-1 Trowbridge St. W. in Meaford during business hours to pick up a criteria form, call Jamie Pettit at 519-538-1640 or e-mail email@example.com for more details.
