Mayor Sandra Cooper proudly announced today that Collingwood’s Acting Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Ed Houghton, was awarded the Ontario Municipal Water Association’s Exceptional Merit Award for 2012.
“Council is extremely proud of Ed and the contribution he has made to the OMWA” said Town of Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper.
“It is recognized that municipalities across Ontario are more able to manage and communicate issues related to municipal water as a direct result of Ed’s leadership. This at the end of the day has created a healthier and safer environment for all Ontarians.”
Mr. Nick Benkovish, President of the OMWA, agreed with Mayor Cooper’s comments.
“The Ontario Municipal Water Association Award of Exceptional Merit was initiated in 1993 and is annually presented to an individual who has made a contribution of exceptional merit to the OMWA and the waterworks sector over an extended period of time”, Mr. Benkovish explained. “This year’s winner certainly exemplifies those criteria as during his two year terms president, he lead the OMWA into many new areas including developing the Drinking Water Leadership Conference as well as introducing a new membership category of Associate Member. He worked to raise the profile of the OMWAS through his articles in Pipeline Magazine and he increased the influence of OMWA and water sector issues. He has been an excellent public representative of his home community, Collingwood as well as the OMWA and the Ontario Water Sector.”
Mr. Houghton was honoured in being named the recipient of this award.
“I am very humbled and appreciative of this announcement and truly appreciate how far we have come in the past years”. Mr. Houghton said, “however, it is the people of Collingwood and across the province who work in our industry on a daily basis that deserve the real credit. On behalf of my team in Collingwood, I respectfully accept this award. Thank you.”
Mr. Houghton was recognized at the OMWA Annual Conference this past Monday, May 7, 2012 in Niagara Falls.
