Students at Pretty River Academy to hold Earth Day fashion show featuring environmentally friendly fashions. On April 22nd, 2008, Earth Day, the Green Squad at the Pretty River Academy will be holding and eco-friendly fashion show dubbed Floraelia.
Floraelia promises to be an unforgettable show, as Pretty River Academy students of all ages take the spotlight, and strut their stuff. The models will be showcasing examples of environmentally friendly,
sustainable, and attractive clothing provided by local shops and businesses.
The show will run from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, in the Pretty River Academy’s gymnasium. Ryan Hayhurst of NEO Organics along with local chef Eric Madden will be catering the event, using only organic foods.
All proceeds raised from the event will be donated to the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust Foundation, to support the continued stewardship of the Silver Creek wetlands. Proceeds from the event will also be used to further the foundation’s efforts to spread the message of sustainability to local schools. Tickets cost $25, which includes premium position seat for the show, draw prizes as well as hors d’oeuvres and access to a cash bar. The Blue Mountain Watershed Trust Foundation was formed in 1995. The foundation works to promote the restoration, rehabilitation, conservation, and sustainable use of the Blue Mountain Watershed ecosystem through broad community stewardship.
The PRA Green Squad was formed in 2007, to bring all of the schools students the knowledge and skill sets to become environmentally aware for the present, as well as the future. In school initiatives have included student lead recycling, composting, idle-free parking lots, and coming this spring, organic gardening.
