Share The Road: We’re on it Together!  There are lots of great reasons to ride a bicycle in The Blue Mountains: health, fitness, fun, reducing green house gas emissions, transportation.  This week and for the rest of the cycling season, The Blue Mountains is actively promoting and supporting safe cycling in The Blue Mountains through its Share The Road Campaign.

Being a rural area, almost all of our roads are only two-lane, which means bicyclists and motorists share the road. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable experience on our roads.

Bicycles are considered vehicles under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, and have the same rights and responsibilities on public roadways as motorists. Bicyclists fare best when they act and are treated as drivers of vehicles.

To make our roads safe, cyclists can:
• Follow rules of the road
• Ride on the right
• Be predictable
• Be visible
• Be courteous and considerate of other users
• Take care of your gear and yourself

To make our roads safe, motorists can:
• Pass with care
• Yield to bicyclists
• Watch for bicyclists
• Be courteous and considerate of other users

In our rural community, cyclists and motorists should:
Be aware of our migrant workers riding bicycles
Watch for slow moving farm equipment
Be aware of farm equipment turning
Use caution when approaching horses and riders on our roads
Be aware of pedestrians

Private partners, Kamikaze and Squire Johns, are proud promoters of Share The Road. Pick up a Share The Road vehicle magnet at these bike shops in exchange for a toonie donation to the campaign.
