Looking for some simple pleasures to create a memorable winter’s weekend?  Creemore’s second annual Big Heart Festival, to be held the weekend of February 8-10 could be just the answer.  Creemore, which means “big heart” in Gaelic, is best known for its brewery, but it is a place full of small-town charms, most of which will be on display during the festival.

Friday night kicks off with a concert at St. Luke’s Anglican Church by the Festival Brass Quintet from the Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto.

The Legion is also hosting its monthly dinner that evening, and there are a variety of other eating choices in town. Saturday the scene shifts to downtown Creemore where the various shops and stores will be featuring “Big Heart Specials.”  To qualify you need to purchase one of the distinctive heart-shaped Creemore pins available around town for just a toonie, or wear one you have already purchased.  All proceeds from pin sales go to the proposed new downtown streetscape.

The Mad & Noisy Gallery is holding over its wildly successful “Creemorecentric” show, consisting of 54 different representations of Creemore life depicted by area residents, from professional artists to first time amateurs. Curiosity House is also featuring a group show with the theme “I Love _____ in the Springtime.”  The Station on the Green is the site of a multiple book singing on Saturday afternoon, with all publications written and illustrated by local area residents.

There will also be cookie decorating and cider for the kids, plus a free raffle for a large gift basket of goodies donated by local merchants.  You will also be able to purchase some beautiful crocuses from the Lions on behalf of the CNIB.  And of course, you can always take a tour of the Creemore Springs Brewery, or just wander up and down Mill Street.

Saturday night the Legion is putting on a Valentine Dance featuring live music in the person of well-known local musicians Franalee, and there is also a Chuck Baker concert at the Mad & Noisy. Sunday brings the opportunity for a free early afternoon Family Skate at the Creemore Arena.

If you want to include some more vigorous activities in your Creemore weekend, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and other winter sports are within 30 minutes of the village.

So come discover some down-to-earth fun and entertainment at the Creemore Big Heart Festival, Friday–Sunday, February 8–10.
