THE DETRITUS PROJECT
An Installation by Peter Adams
Creemore Log Cabin, October 4th and 5th from 10 am to 4 pm
A featured element of the Purple Hills Arts Festival, Peter Adams’ Detritus Project is a multi-faceted installation piece which celebrates the rich agricultural heritage of the Creemore area. To create this installation, Adams will be excavating the detritus within the stone piles of his farm and rearranging them in the interior of the Creemore Log Cabin. The display will include the field stones, broken agricultural implements, tin cans, bottles and other unwanted refuse, along with tiny fragments of metal, glass and ceramics found during of years of hiking, renovating and gardening.
Well-known for his Creemore area landscapes, this installation would seem a departure of sorts for Adams. "Thematically it’s really not very different at all," says the artist. "I’ve always had an interest in heritage and resource use. I think this project will also blur the lines between our ideas of what we consider resources and what we think of as refuse, between what is scenic and what is unsightly." Indeed, this exhibit will challenge some viewers to question their ideas about what constitutes art and about where one should look to find inspiration.
