Shorter Days and Cooler Fun (Posted On: Tuesday, October 19, 2010)

 Decrease font
Just as they are growing cooler, the days in Collingwood and Surrounds are getting shorter. Daylight Saving Time ends this year on Sunday, November 7th. Don’t lose sleep (figuratively) if you still get confused as to which way the clock goes. Paying attention to those old adages, ‘spring forward, fall back’ or ‘spring ahead, fall behind’ is a great help in setting things straight when it comes to DST.

You may be holding off on cranking up the heat at home or the office. Keep in mind that a small portable space heater can be a perfect compromise before we hit those frosty and frigid months. We all differ when it comes to feeling the cold. You may be chilled while another person within the vicinity is actually on the toasty side. Children and the elderly can often feel the cold more than the rest of us. A space heater does exactly what its title suggests… It heats up your ‘space’. And from personal experience, I can also tell you that it is great for cold feet!

As with any contraption, certain safety guidelines must be adhered to. It sounds basic, but always check the manual before using your portable heater. When not in use, keep it turned off and even unplugged. And never position it close to anything that can burn or melt.

Potential entrepreneurs will step into the line of fire at Meaford Hall on Wednesday, October 20th at the 2nd annual Dragons’ Den Meaford. Presented by the Meaford & District Chamber of Commerce and modeled after the popular CBC TV series, 7 contestants will pitch their business ideas to a panel of 5 savvy and successful ‘Dragons’ for a chance to win a minimum of $5,000 in start-up cash and other fantastic prizes. Tickets are $12.50 and $10 (students) and are available through the Meaford Hall Box Office by calling 1-877-538-0463 or online at http://www.meafordhall.ca.
