|Celebrity Chef Mark McEwan is lending his time and talent to help kick off the inaugural fundraising event and introduce Comfort for Kids. Comfort for Kids is an organization whose mission it is to reach out to children, teens and their families in our community who live in environments where there is need to create a warm, comfortable sleeping space.|
This exciting fundraising event is scheduled for Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Craigleith Ski Club, in The Blue Mountains. The evening will feature spectacular culinary offerings presented by Mark McEwan, an array of high quality live entertainment and an art focused silent auction. Famous artists such as Lorne Wagman, Rae Johnson, Harold Klunder, George McLean and many other talented Canadian artists have generously donated pieces. Gord Downie, of The Tragically Hip, has agreed to donate numerous signed Hockey Jerseys, albums and much more to this worthwhile cause.
“There are so many children in our community in situations that do not suit their needs; whether that is not having their very own bed to sleep in, cozy sheets perhaps, or even something as simple as a warm blanket and pillow. I know, these small things must sound somewhat unbelievable, as we live in a country of plenty, yet Ontario reports one of highest rates of child poverty in Canada. With 44% of the country's poor children, Ontario has become the child poverty centre of Canada.” says Comfort For Kids Founder and Executive Director Lisanne Dunn.
“As an interior decorator for twenty-five years, my most favorite room to recreate by far has always been children's bedrooms. Just the sheer joy that I have experienced through seeing the look on a child’s face, time and time again, at the moment of the reveal has been so inspiring to me. That experience has often led me to think about the kids who don't have the privilege of having a cozy sleeping space of their own. It is this recurring thought that has motivated me to take action to turn my vision into reality through a not for profit organization, which has been named Comfort For Kids.”
Tickets for the event are $125 plus processing fees and are available online.
