|It’s a great time to be living in Collingwood, or visiting here for the weekend or a vacation. The next couple of months are going to be very exciting in Downtown Collingwood. I think you'll find that very quickly over the next few weeks that you will be seeing more and more of the finished product come into view from so many of the construction projects that have been underway for what seems like forever.|
Projects that have taken years to plan and execute are all coming to a head just before Canada Day (if everything stays on track).
First plus, the new library is open for business and the building is simply gorgeous both inside and out. Second plus, the next phase of the Downtown revitalization plan is nearing completion. Third plus, construction on First Street has already shown so many signs of improvement; from the lighting to the new turning lane....we're almost there. Fourth plus, the Tremont is being re-born, resurrected and restored with plans to open later in the summer. Here's the biggie...the Fifth plus, the Shipyards waterfront promenade will be open for Canada Day. These are a lot of plusses and I feel lucky to be living here while all of this exciting stuff is going on.
There are some really exciting events lined up for the summer, some of the old favourites of course like Canada Day Celebrations and the Collingwood Elvis Festival and some new ones like the Great Northern Medieval Fayre. Make sure you take a look at our Events Calendar while you’re planning your summer.
If you’re into hiking, you have to try the Cascade Trail at Blue Mountain. The trail is nestled in the trees and follows a waterfall all the way to the top of Blue Mountain. You can find the trail at the South Base Lodge. If you walk straight up the hill, starting on the right hand side of the lodge, you will find the entrance to the trail about 100 paces up the hill…listen for the sound of the water. The folks at Blue Mountain have done a tremendous job fixing the trail up and adding some new steps so it is much easier to navigate than before. Go at your own pace and wear proper hiking or running shoes. There are lots of lovely spots to pause and catch your breath!
On to more serious things, a friend of mine gave me a great HST guide and if you’re as confused about the whole thing as I was, you might find this a helpful thing to print and refer to while you’re getting used to the new tax.
