The Christmas spirit is alive and well in the Collingwood area. Since February, a group of 16 individuals have been volunteering their time to organize a very special event called, A Christmas Day Feast in Collingwood.
After noticing that there were no opportunities to enjoy a community-based, holiday dinner in the town on Christmas Day, they decided to do something about it. Many people struggle during the holidays. Some are unable to put together a Christmas dinner due to financial or emotional barriers while others are alone, new to the town or simply want to enjoy a special spirit of the holiday with others in the community.
Fortunately, a dedicated team of volunteer "elves" have been working behind the scenes to remedy this and community reaction has been overwhelming. Chairperson, Marg Scheben-Edey said, "We are so delighted and filled with gratitude for the support that has come forward. Just last week we were thrilled to learn of the significant GOLD level contribution pledged by the Rotary Club of Collingwood South Georgian Bay." Scheben-Edey went on to say that other local services clubs including the Kinettes, the Progress Club and Optimist Club, several local businesses and individuals have come forward with generous donations that have ensured the event will be one to remember for the 160 expected guests. In addition, all of the over 50 volunteer positions have been filled and the group if now turning it's attentions to reaching potential dinner guests.
The event takes place on December 25th when there will be two meal seatings; one at 1PM, and the other at 5PM at All Saints' Anglican Church who have generously donated use of their Hall. It is a non-denominational event and everyone, of all ages is welcome. Each seating will include a home-style meal, seasonal entertainment, activities and gifts for children and a little something for the adults to take home.
Tickets are only available in advance as they are limited to 80 seats per seating, and are available from Saunders Office Supplies on Hurontario They are free but for those who can, there is a suggested donation of $3 per ticket.
