Tired of making lunches? Have we got a great solution for you! Parents/Caregivers don’t always have time to make and/or deliver a hot dietitian-approved lunch for their child every lunch hour, but The Children’s Gourmet can. Looking to volunteer with an organization that makes a difference in your own back yard? Maybe you simply want to get out there and meet new people. Look no further, this not for profit company is doing great things in our community and they need your help to spread the word.

THE CHILDREN’S GOURMET CLUB INC. is a service company that assists a group of registered not-for-profit organizations who prepare and deliver nutritious, dietitian-approved lunches and information to schools in their own unique communities.

Our goal is that in each community, every student has a nutritious lunch every school day to help face the challenges of the learning environment. It is important to remember what students eat for snacks and lunch affects how well nourished they are and how well they learn, reason and behave at school OUR MOTTO….”Healthy Meals Develop Healthy Minds says it all”.

To assist all communities involved to accomplish the following:

• Through parent subscriptions, individuals, corporate and government donations, fund the preparation of meals for school-aged children, including those arriving at school without lunches.

• Endeavour to provide nutritional information to promote a healthy lifestyle for the children in our community.

• Strive to be environmentally conscious in our choice of packaging.

• Keep the community aware of our goal

Debbe Rogers, Founder, started the above in April of 2004 after she saw a need for children to have nutritious lunches. After going back to school Debbe received her degree in Early Childhood Education in May of 2003 and while on school placements she noticed the poor nutritional quality of some the children’s lunches. She also observed some children were coming to school with no lunches at all. Debbe volunteered her time and money to start up the Organization and was involved on a full time basis until August of 2008. Debbe Rogers is now CHAIR of the Board of Directors for THE CHILDREN’S GOURMET CLUB INC.

Chantal Haas, C.E.O. & Managing Director was appointed on September 15th, 2008 with the objective to expand the child nutrition program on behalf of The Children’s Gourmet Club Inc. throughout Simcoe County. In the short time Chantal has been in this role she has responded to many communities in the area asking to be included in the program and has doubled the number of schools serviced.

Although the history of the company is important to understand, what really counts is what are the parents and kids who are receiving this service are saying? One child says, “I wish you could make my lunch for the rest of my life”. Another says, “the baked potato and sour cream is awesome”. One parent had to come to school to pick up the lunch for her child that had stayed home sick for the day....but apparently not too sick for our lunches. Another parent points out that her kids are trying foods at school they wouldn't dare try at home. This is the kind of peer pressure we love to hear about.

Teachers also want us to offer a special gourmet lunch for a “teacher’s day” saying our lunches smell so good. Additionally, feeding those children that don't bring a lunch to school gives you such a satisfying feeling when you see the look of sincere appreciation on their face.

If you would like to get involved with this amazing program, Children's Gourmet is looking for volunteers in many different capacities. Whether you have an hour, two or maybe more, once a week in the mornings, to assist with food preparation in the kitchen, delivering meals to schools, joining the Board of Directors or assisting with fund raising, we really need your help.

Our plan is to schedule consistent teams to each work one day of the week so volunteers can schedule us into their lives easier as well as getting to know and like who they work with. Gather a group of your friends and pick a day to volunteer as a team. If you can't volunteer your time we ask that you consider helping to feed a child in your community who doesn't have a lunch, through our sponsorship program.
