Catch 22 Fresh Market Grill has just launched a new menu that includes an amazing Seafood Platter for Two. Located at 10138 Hwy 26 East it’s a great spot for dinner on a Friday night after that stressful drive from Toronto.

The restaurant accommodates 90 guests in the dining room and 65 in the lounge, there’s also seating for 60 on the patios. The design of the restaurant is that of partners Jeff and Cori Hegmans and Bob Bickmore. The construction and renovations of the building were by Jeff and his company, Casal Metal. The dining room has an intimate surrounding and the lounge a little more relaxed with fireplace and 12 televisions. The partners wanted to create a restaurant that they themselves would feel comfortable in, with that in mind, Catch 22 Fresh Market Grill was born.

The menu at Catch 22 offers an expression of exquisite cooking style where boundaries are limitless. Catch 22 is truly a culinary experience. The cuisine of Executive Chef/ Partner Bob Bickmore lets you encounter seasonal menu items that highlight the abundance of locally raised and grown products from the Georgian Triangle and afar. Culinary treats of fresh Umbrian Truffles, and fresh Quebec Foie Gras grace the menu on a regular basis. Locally grown Northern Woods Mushrooms can be found on many of the menu selections.

The wine and drink selections are the works of General Manager/Partner Cori Hegmans who’s daily energy sees to the smooth operations of the restaurant and constant up keep and changes to the wine lists.

The restaurant runs and exists on the foundation of family. Cori and Jeff along with their daughters Alyse15 and Cassidy13, have an active part in the restaurant. Alyse works in the kitchen helping with the dishes and takes on the serious task of plating desserts. Alyse has been know to design her own plates and is highly encouraged to do so. Cassidy takes a role in the dining room where she assists the servers in getting tables ready, doing bread service, bussing tables and helping her grandmother, Peggy Campbell, greet guests at the door. Chef Bob’s two sons, Michael 20, and Zachary 14, can be found taking part as well. Zachary, like Alyse, helps out with the dishes and is encouraged to be creative in the design and plating of desserts. You can often find the two arguing as to who is going to do the next dessert order. On the rare occasion you can find Michael, who attends Centennial College in Toronto full time, serenading guests in the lounge with his guitar.

There are many variables involved in the successful partnership at Catch 22. Both Cori and Jeff are lovers of food and operated a successful catering business in the Barrie area for over eight years. Jeff schooled in the culinary program at Humber College while Cori at George Browns’ Food and Beverage Management Diploma program. Chef Bob’s career began at George Browns Chef Pre-employment program and went on to apprentice under the tutelage of Executive Chef Josef Vonlanthen at Toronto airports Regal Constellation Hotel. After years of running some of Toronto and Mississauga’s fine kitchens the opportunity for ownership was made possible with the Hegmans. Since opening in December 2004, the partners have never looked back. Catch 22 has been a growing business since day one.

The kitchen at Catch 22 operates with the luxuries of working with the freshest and very best of ingredients. One of the variables of success has been the strong belief in family and the belief that many of their full time staff members are part of that family.

Chef Bob refers to his staff as “culinary team excellence”. The team consists of Chef Maciek Zelazny, Sous Chef Neil Creech and valuable members George Wylie, Max Lehmann, Zachary Bickmore, Alyse Hegmans and Shelly Joslins. “We as a team and family have one of the best opportunities around for having the luxury of being innovative and creative on a daily basis”. Over and above the extensive menus’, the kitchen offers six to eight featured items daily. With that in mind, the restaurant relies heavily on the hard work and dedication of the front of the house members to relay these features to our guests. Manager Nancy, with servers, Diana, Lesley, Chris, Kelly, Sonia and others are all a part of the whole family picture.
