The Collingwood Community Food Co-op is pleased to announce that its Official Grand Opening Festivities will take place on Friday May 17 and Saturday May 18, 2013. Both the festivities and the retail store are open to members and the public. The Co-op is located at 65 Simcoe Street, across from the Collingwood Library.
The Collingwood Community Food Co-op is a cooperative business that specializes in supplying local and organic food to Collingwood and our surrounding community. We showcase a rich diversity of fresh, local food including milk products, fish, meat, produce, and prepared foods. During the winter, this is supplemented with fresh organic products sourced through a local produce distributor. The CCFC has a stringent set of guidelines that ensures that we only provide the highest quality foods to our members and guests. There are many important considerations in deciding what to bring in our store, such as the source, the production method (e.g., organic), packaging, and how it tastes! The cooperative business was formed in the minds of several local visionaries, as a means to connect local farmers, chefs, and avid food enthusiasts.
After generating strong interest in our community, we held our first meeting on April 11th of 2012. We assimilated literally hundreds of ideas from people of diverse backgrounds, creating a vision and direction for what the co-op could become. A large number of people that attended were concerned about the quality, freshness, and cleanliness of their food sources; the CCFC evolved into a solution to these concerns. The CCFC also incorporates a community kitchen that will feature demonstrations, workshops as well as producing a line of CCFC quality food products.
The CCFC opened its doors on December 14th of 2012, only eight months after our first public meeting, making us the fastest opening food coop in Ontario. As a co-operative, our profits are re-invested in the company, allowing us to continue to grow and improve our products and services. Members are provided with discounts on purchases and the added benefit of knowing that their money supports our local farmers and food producers. "The CCFC now has over 215 members, an even larger number of guest shoppers, and generous support from local business' and organizations. It's incredible to see how far this coop has come so quickly, and we have plenty more in store to help shape the Collingwood Community", says Bradley Kerr, CCFC President and Chair. We hope you will be able to attend.
