On April 23rd Home Horizon is holding its 8th annual Bowls
for Beds fundraiser. Proceeds from the
event go to funding Home Horizon's programs to provide counseling and housing
options to homeless women, children and youth in the Georgian Bay region. "It is through events like Bowls for Beds
that Home Horizon raises the majority of its money to provide essential
services to our areas homeless population.
Because of this, it is very important that we sell as many tickets as
possible. Fortunately, the event has
remained extremely popular over the years and routinely the tickets sell out
very fast," says Joe Saunders fundraising manager for the organization.
At the Bowls for Beds event, ticket holders can sample approximately 20 gourmet soups prepared by local restaurants. They can also participate to vote for the 2017 Soup-er Star. Of the restaurants that are routinely in attendance this honor has become a coveted source of bragging rights that has resulted in many chefs pulling out all of the culinary stops. Those who attend can enjoy the result, by sampling world class, unique gourmet creations.
The soup bowls at the event are all unique works of art. Every year, Home Horizon visits local schools to enlist the artistic talents of the students to paint the ceramic bowls. Those who attend on April 23rd can select a bowl for themselves and can keep it after the event. "Selecting a bowl that suits the artistic tastes of the ticket holder is part of the fun. We have everything from abstract paintings, to comic characters represented this year. Collecting the bowls from one year to the next has become a hobby for a lot of the people who routinely attend," comments Saunders.
Bowls for Beds is a fun family friendly event and people of all ages are welcome to purchase tickets to attend. A silent auction will also be held.
