|Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Georgian Triangle (BBBSGT) today announced the official kick off of the 2012 Tim Hortons Bowl for Kids Sake at Georgian Bowl on Saturday, February 18th at 1:00 pm.
“This is a critical year for us as we are coming to the end of a three year Ontario Trillium grant,” said Board of Directors President, Doug Paul.
“The grant allowed us to double the number of children and youth we have been able to reach. In order for us to continue serving those kids, we need to at least match last year’s incredible event that raised $115,000 thanks to the tremendous support from the community.”
BBBSGT Executive Director, Karen Webb said, “Our most exciting addition to bowling is the School Challenge, open to the high schools as well as grade 7 and 8 students. The Collingwood Alternative School has been home to the engraved plaque awarded to them as the 2011 School Challenge winners.
“Georgian Bowl will be buzzing on the night of February 29th when our young winners raising the most funds grab their grand prizes that include an ipod Dock donated by Farrow Audio Visual; a Half Day for Two Climbing/Caving Free Spirit Tours; Half Day for Two at Blue Mountain Go-Karts and an 18-speed bike donated by our title sponsor, Tim Hortons. A free movie and popcorn at the Cineplex or large Toppers Pizza Coupons will go to the two teams raising the most money,” said Webb.
“Getting involved is really easy and a lot of fun. All you need to do is put together a team of four or five bowlers, schedule your bowling party with me at 705-445-2330 for Georgian Bowl or 519-599-2053 for Meaford Bowl and then fundraise by asking friends and family to sponsor you, that’s it.”
“You and your team arrive at the bowling alley with the funds you have raised, bowl two games and collect your prizes. Everyone raising $50 or more wins prizes including gift cards from Tim Hortons, Dairy Queen, Subway, Empire Grill, Chocolarte, Toppers Pizza, Leeky Canoe and New Orleans Pizza.”
Random draws and recognition prizes add to the fun thanks to many generous local merchants. Visit the agency’s website to view the list of our generous supporters.
“We have some amazing grand prizes again this year,” said Webb, “and we are doing things a little differently. The person raising the most funds will have first choice of one of the four grand prizes, followed by the second and third highest fund raisers. Grand prizes include “a week’s stay in a Stowe Vermont condominium thanks to Wayne and Hilda Noble, a 2012/2013 Super Pass for Blue Mountain, a foursome of golf including carts at Lora Bay Golf and a $300 gift certificate for Scandinave Spa. A new restaurant in Thornbury, Simplicity Bistro, is providing gift certificates to members of the winning team.”
Bowling continues for three weeks with the last day on Friday March 9th at Collingwood’s Georgian Bowl. Meaford Bowl has bowling all day Saturday February 25th and Tuesday, February 28th between 5:00 pm and closing. Pledge forms are available at all Tim Hortons outlets (Collingwood, Stayner, Wasaga Beach, Thornbury and Meaford) as well as the offices of Big Brothers Big Sisters at 129 Hurontario St., Unit 201 in Collingwood.
A Big Thanks to our Title Sponsor Tim Hortons and Signature Sponsor, Investors Group.
