With Valentine's Day right around the corner we thought we'd give you a bunch of fun suggestions on how to enjoy the day. The mycollingwood.ca team has come up with a list of ideas that range in price from almost nothing to a little more extravagant.
Make a date to go ice skating together. Very romantic! Click here for the schedule and as Valentine's Day falls on a Friday this year - you're in luck because there is open skating available at the outdoor rink in Collingwood from 12 noon - 8pm and even better, it's FREE. Scandinave Spa - this is a no brainer and here is a link to purchase gift cards on line.
Make dinner reservations. Here's a link to all of the Amazing Restaurants http://www.mycollingwood.ca/dining/amazing_restaurants.asp in the area. I have a couple of suggestions for you regarding dining out on Valentine's Day - MAKE RESERVATIONS! You could also surprise your Valentine and go the day before or even 2 days before. You'll get better service, it will be more intimate and less noisy especially because Valentine's Day is on a Friday this year when most of the restaurants in the area are jammed on the weekends and guess what? Both Azzurra ($1 corkage on Tuesdays) in Downtown Collingwood and The Mill Restaurant ($1 corkage on Wednesdays) in Thornbury have $1 Corkage. You could always buy a gift certificate for your sweetie's favourite restaurant and slip it into a Valentine's card.
Design a one of a kind piece of jewellery together. Visit Bonnie Dorgelo Studio located at 48 Pine Street, 2nd Floor, in Downtown Collingwood, T: 705.441.4109.
Buy a Pamperme Valentines package - 60min couples relaxation massage & Spa Facials $265 (2hrs) or 60min couples relaxation massage & Side by side Pedicures $230 (2hrs).

Top Gun - appeals to both guys and girls; Warm Bodies - Zombie love story to appeals to both guys and girls; About Time - with Rachel McAdams and releases on Feb 4 of this year and has a 7.9 rating on IMDB; Enough Said with James Gandolfini; Twilight movies; Run Fatboy Run; Letters to Juliet; 500 Days of Summer; Crazy Stupid Love; Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour and Shakespeare in Love.

A personal favourite of mine is Aarden's Chocolates in Stayner with their Romeo and Juliet heart box made of chocolate. You simply must visit in store to see all of their wonderful chocolates for Valentine's day, starting at just $3.99 and up.
Get A room - changing up the scenery can work magic! Here's a link to all of accommodation options in the area and a list of B&B's. Both the Bacchus House and the Beild House are very romantic settings and offer wonderful culinary options.

Check out Just Push Play Arcade for some vintage fun. If you're old enough you'll remember that a date to go the Arcade and play some pinball used to be quite a lot of fun. Twenty minutes of unlimited play costs only $5 bucks per person and a whole hour is only $10.
Go snowshoeing together. Scenic Caves Nordic Centre is a local favorite - you can share a kiss on the suspension bridge and if it's too cold and windy for you, the Deep Woods Trail is the perfect place to be sheltered by the dense forest. Never been snowshoeing? If you can walk you can snowshoe and both Scenic Caves and Highlands Nordic offer rentals.
Make a batch of Chocolate Cherry Dessert wine at Wine Works. It's delicious (and I speak from numerous occasions of personal experience) and it's a fun activity to do together! While you're there you can congratulate John on 25 years in business!
Take the Partner Yoga, Wine and Chocolate Event with Shirlee Williams at Buddha Rider on Valentine's Day from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm. Developed with reverence for the ancient tradition of yoga, partner yoga is designed to help improve balance, strength, and flexibility as well as increase the level of trust and communication between you and your partner. This yoga practice blends mutually beneficial postures, conscious breathing, trust, communication, and most of all playfulness and fun. Partner Yoga is perfect for anyone - novice or seasoned yoga practitioner - who is interested in increasing fitness, releasing tension, strengthening relationships, and having a good time. So find a partner and explore the possibilities! $60.00 per couple. Space is limited and will sell out quickly. Please call to reserve your spot.
Bake a batch of heart shaped cookies.
Make a game of hiding heart shaped chocolates wrapped in pretty foil colours. You could make a trail of hearts leading to you - get the idea.
Bake a heart shaped cake. To get the perfect heart shape (this is genius and I learned it from my Grade 5 teacher at Eglinton Public School) use one square pan and one circle pan. Cut the circle cake in half to form 2 semi circles. Put each circle against sides 1 and 2 of the square cake and voila - a perfect heart shape. Make it double delicious and bake 2 layers of each shape.
A gift certificate for Tingle Lingerie and Luxuries in the Blue Mountian Village. Hot, Hot Hot or if that's just a bit too daring, you might try Christie's in downtown Collingwood (best customer service in the land! And they wrap everything for you too!). I was in there yesterday and they have beautiful red leather gloves (hint to Dan) and lots of other great gift choices.
Don't forget the card! Handmade or store bought.
Have fun this Valentine's Day and remember - thoughtfulness is key! Not how much money you spend. Speaking of money with so many days of road closures this month due to weather conditions, I'm sure our local retailers would really appreciate the business so remember to keep your shopping dollars local!
