Back to School Help (Posted On: Wednesday, September 03, 2014)

For SMART WORKS TUTORING and teachers, parents and students, back-to-school is just around the corner.  For students, this means a new back pack and a new locker; old skills learned last year, some that may need dusting off; a new teacher who will have new ideas and expectations; old friends who have had summer adventures; and new homework for the new grade.

At SMART WORKS TUTORING, back-to-school means helping students start out on the right foot.  Whether it is organization for the term, refreshing skills or assisting with an early assignment, SMART WORKS TUTORING can help.

How should families best manage the transition of "back to school"?

At SMART WORKS TUTORING, some simple strategies and ideas are recommended to make back-to-school easier.

Some tips for students of all ages:

Routines - If you have younger students, start the bedtime transition early. Students who start the year rested and in their routine are ready to learn.  Older students, too.

Schedules - Post a weekly schedule so everyone can see it and add to it. It should include activities e.g. swimming lessons, homework assignments and social dates.

Homework - Have a set time and place for homework, particularly for younger students.  Older students may need to be reminded about homework routines and the appropriate use of other technology e.g. social media.

Activities - This is a busy time for the start of many activities. Try to give younger students free time as summer wraps up. It is a big transition from Labour Day to the first day of school.

SMART WORKS TUTORING can provide you with many more ideas and can help you implement good strategies.

SMART WORKS TUTORING offers programs for students who want to get ahead in the fall. Don't wait until the first report, if you see that SMART WORKS TUTORING can help.
