The Blue Mountain Village Foundation is pleased to announce that a donation will be made to Sheatre - Be Our Ally. A donation of $1,000 was presented to the organization this week in the Blue Mountain Village in front of Sunset Grill. Joan Chandler received the cheque from the Foundation board members; Bruce Melhuish, and Stacy Manning.
"The Foundation reviewed many applications for funds and all were very deserving," says Bruce Melhuish, Director of the Foundation. "We chose to support Sheatre - Be Our Ally program as it exemplifies our efforts to support local youth education with regards to bullying."
"This funding allowed us to give 4 presentations of Be Our Ally to 420 elementary and secondary students and staff in the Georgian Triangle. Teachers were surprised by how the students really stepped up and spoke out. It got the message across - that homophobia is not okay, and that we are all people with human rights. The kids just loved it. One made a homophobic remark later that day and another student who doesn't often speak up challenged her saying "Didn't you learn anything today? " says Joan Chandler, Artistic Director.
The Blue Mountain Village Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our local communities through its financial support of registered charitable organizations whose activities provide benefit to the residents of our local communities, with an emphasis on children and family programs.
